PROJECT OVERVIEW

Trazlbat delivered the installation of approximately 21 kilometres of multi-utility conduit infrastructure at Emu Plains, supporting the establishment of a fully operational precast yard for the Western Harbour Tunnel project. The works comprised electrical, communications, gas, water, recycled water, fire services, and sewer infrastructure, delivered as part of a complex and high-density utility corridor.

The project involved extensive coordination of multiple service types within shared corridors, requiring precise installation, protection of existing assets, and staged construction to support ongoing site operations and future utility requirements.

Scope of Works

  • Installation of approximately 21 km of multi-utility conduit infrastructure across the project site.
  • Electrical reticulation including approximately 5 km of 50mm–150mm UPVC conduit.
  • Installation of communication, electrical, and service pits, including:
    • 600 x 600 communication pits
    • 900 x 900 electrical pits
    • 1200 x 900 electrical pits
  • Gas infrastructure including approximately 1 km of PE SDR11 110mm–160mm conduit.
  • Fire hydrant services including approximately 2.5 km of PE SDR11 125mm conduit.
  • Pressure and gravity sewer mains including approximately 1 km of PE SDR11 65mm conduit.
  • Potable water reticulation including approximately 1 km of 100mm OPVC conduit.
  • Recycled water infrastructure including approximately 1 km of 100mm OPVC conduit.
  • Installation of 1050mm sewer pits.
  • Concrete encasement of water, gas, electrical, and communications conduits where required.
  • Excavation, trenching, bedding, backfilling, and compaction of all service trenches.
  • Protection and coordination of existing and newly installed utilities.
  • Testing, inspection, and compliance verification of installed services.

Project Challenges

  • Coordinating installation of multiple utility services within shared and constrained corridors.
  • Managing interface requirements between electrical, gas, water, sewer, and communications infrastructure.
  • Maintaining service separation and compliance with relevant authority standards.
  • Sequencing works to support ongoing operations of the precast facility development.
  • Working within a high-density underground services environment with limited tolerance for conflict.
  • Ensuring protection and integrity of existing services during excavation and installation activities.
