Uralla Watermain Upgrade

This project involved the construction of a new water main network across three streets in Uralla, enhancing the reliability and capacity of the town’s water infrastructure. The works included the installation of new water mains, hydrants, valves, service connections, and tie-ins to the existing network, while carefully managing construction within a busy commercial area and alongside the New England Highway.

Scope of Works

• Coordination with the relevant authorities, including obtaining a Road Occupancy Licence (ROL) from Transport for NSW prior to commencement.
• Supply and installation of approximately 400 metres of DN100 water main.
• Supply and installation of approximately 150 metres of DN150 water main.
• Installation of hydrants, stop valves, bends, and associated water infrastructure fittings.
• Underboring beneath landscaped areas and garden beds to minimise surface disturbance.
• Transfer and connection of existing property services to the new water main.
• Connection of the new water main to the existing network and decommissioning of redundant infrastructure.
• Testing, commissioning, and reinstatement of all disturbed areas following completion.

Project Challenges

• Maintaining strong communication and coordination with local businesses to minimise operational disruption throughout construction.
• Ensuring continuous driveway and customer access to businesses during all stages of the works.
• Protecting existing garden beds, landscaping, and streetscape features through the use of trenchless installation methods where appropriate.
• Managing utility conflicts by installing sections of the water main at increased depths to accommodate existing underground services.
• Delivering the works safely within close proximity to the New England Highway while maintaining traffic flow and public safety.
• Coordinating multiple stakeholders and traffic management requirements in a constrained urban environment.
