PROJECT OVERVIEW

Trazlbat delivered the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a new water main reticulation network across Cunnamulla township. The project involved the replacement of ageing asbestos cement (AC) water mains with modern DN100 PVC pipework, significantly improving water quality, system reliability, and long-term service performance for the local community.

The works included full network construction and integration with the existing live system, as well as the replacement and transfer of numerous property connections to ensure a seamless transition to the upgraded infrastructure.

Scope of Works

  • Design and construction of approximately 4,000 metres of DN100 PVC water main reticulation network.
  • Removal and replacement of existing asbestos cement (AC) water mains with new PVC infrastructure.
  • Installation of stop valves, hydrants, and associated network fittings.
  • Replacement and transfer of approximately 130 property service connections to the new water main.
  • Excavation, trenching, bedding, pipe installation, backfilling, and compaction works.
  • Connection of new water mains into the existing live network.
  • Pressure testing, flushing, disinfection, and commissioning of the completed system.
  • Coordination and execution of live property service transfers on designated cutover days.
  • Site reinstatement of roads, footpaths, and all disturbed areas.

Project Challenges

  • Working in a remote location with extended supply chains and logistics constraints.
  • Excavation in congested urban areas with unknown and poorly documented existing services.
  • Undertaking works in sensitive community environments, including schools and recreational facilities such as swimming pools.
  • Managing multiple live connections into existing asbestos cement (AC) water mains.
  • Coordinating simultaneous property service transfers during tightly controlled cutover operations.
  • Maintaining continuous water supply and minimising disruption to residents and businesses throughout construction.
