Balonne Sewer Treatment Plant Upgrades

Scope of Works

The works comprise the rehabilitation of the existing wastewater treatment ponds and the replacement of the existing septic tank system at the site. The project includes dewatering, desludging, earthworks, embankment stabilisation, septic tank decommissioning and replacement, associated pipework installation, testing, commissioning, and site reinstatement to restore the facility to full operational capability.

Pond Rehabilitation

• Dewater, desludge, rehabilitate and stabilise Oxidation Pond 1 (approximately 35m x 15m).
• Extend the pond wall adjacent to the septic tank to provide a minimum 3-metre clearance.
• Reuse suitable material from the evaporation pond for embankment construction where practical.
• Dewater, desludge, rehabilitate and stabilise Oxidation Pond 2 (approximately 72m x 25m).
• Clean out, reshape and restore the evaporation pond, including embankments and pond floor.
• Complete all earthworks and grading required to achieve the specified pond profiles and operational performance.

Septic Tank Replacement

• Pump out, decommission, remove and dispose of the existing septic tank and associated infrastructure (approximately 4m diameter x 3.3m deep).
• Transport and dispose of all waste materials at approved disposal facilities.
• Supply and install new septic tank(s) with a minimum total capacity of 42kL in accordance with AS/NZS 1546 and relevant authority requirements.
• Complete all excavation, backfilling and compaction works associated with the new installation.
• Supply and install 150mm inlet and outlet pipework, including approximately 6 metres of 150mm rising main, valves and associated fittings.
• Provide compliant ventilation, inspection and maintenance access points.
• Connect and test all new pipework and system components for watertightness and functionality.
• Reinstate all disturbed areas to pre-construction condition.

Testing and Commissioning

• Perform functional testing and commissioning of the complete wastewater system.
