Construct a trunk water main “Mini Link” within Queensland up to the New South Wales state border in Coolangatta and Tweed Heads to enhance water supply to Tweed Heads.
Scope of Works
Supply and construct 700m DN375 DICL trunk water main.
Project Challenges/Risks
– Rocky strata
– Steeper grades so need to install trench stops and bulk heads
– Connections into existing DN525 AC main with limited area to work around within 36 hours of shut down
– Service crossings: Storm water box culverts x 3, 2m deep, Storm water RCP pipes x 3, Watermain x 4, Sewer x 5, Telstra x 4
– Road alignment – 70% of pipe install in road
– Road restoration – complete road restoration with 150mm asphalt
– Pipe encasement and trench fill by using concrete lean mix, aggregate 5-7mm
– Installation of pipe under driveways
– Road crossings x 3
– Busy road hence minimum 4 traffic controllers required per day
– Working in trench with water table
– Daily restoration of road at the end of each shift
