WestConnex Haberfield

The WestConnex Haberfield project formed part of a major infrastructure upgrade supporting the expansion and integration of Sydney’s road and tunnel network, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion across key transport corridors. Trazlbat was engaged to deliver critical water infrastructure works within a highly constrained urban environment, requiring complex staging, precision construction, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.

The works included open trench pipeline installation, trenchless construction, and associated valve and network infrastructure within one of Sydney’s most densely developed transport corridors.

Scope of Works

• Excavation and open trench installation of approximately 785 metres of pipeline corridor.
• Supply and installation of 785 metres of DN900 welded Sintakote pipe.
• Trenchless boring installation of a 90-metre DN1500 diameter sleeve at Alt Street.
• Installation of complex valve arrangements and associated pipeline infrastructure.
• Excavation, bedding, pipe laying, jointing, backfilling, and compaction works.
• Integration of new water infrastructure into existing live networks.
• Testing, flushing, and commissioning of completed pipeline sections.
• Protection and management of existing underground services and utilities.
• Traffic management and staged construction within a high-volume urban environment.
• Site reinstatement of all disturbed areas following completion.

Project Challenges

• Delivering works within a highly constrained urban road and tunnel corridor as part of the WestConnex program.
• Managing complex trenchless installation (90m bore) for a large-diameter sleeve beneath existing infrastructure.
• Coordinating works in close proximity to live roads, tunnels, and densely packed underground services.
• Maintaining traffic flow and public safety within a major metropolitan transport network.
• Sequencing construction activities to align with broader tunnelling and road upgrade works.
• Managing interface risks with multiple contractors and utility providers.
